Art Collaboration: Two Hummingbirds

This is the latest painting I created for my collaborative book project with Tina Hirsig. I loved making this painting. I was inspired by the hummingbird painting she created in the last page of our collaborative book. I love watching the hummingbirds in my garden zipping about on all my colorful flowers.

Our book gets sent back and forth from Connecticut to South Carolina about once a month. along with a letter which you can read below:

Dear Tina,

I loved your hummingbird drawing and how hummingbirds remind you of your mom. They also visit my garden, and I love watching them fluttering about on my flowers. I have two that like to hang out on our garden lights. They are so tiny and cute!

This painting was inspired by our time together in Paris. It was so wonderful going to all the museums, drinking all the lovely wine, eating croissants, and soaking up all that culture. There were SO many things from that trip that I loved but my biggest highlight was our visit to Monet’s garden, rain and all. I loved being surrounded by all that COLOR! It was one of the most magical places I’ve ever been and being there with you made it even better!

I was thinking about our friendship when I painted the two birds in my painting. I like to think of us as dear old souls hanging out like the little hummingbirds in my garden, fully in the moment, embracing the “joie de vivre”.

Love ya! 💞

Laura
