“Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.” ~Thich Nhat Hahn

I have been finding so much peace painting these “little treasures”. They are inspired by the magic and whimsy of the sea. The ocean is such a calming, rejuvenating place for me. Even just thinking about it reminds me how wondrously vast and mysterious it is. I feel connected to something so much larger than my “thinking mind” can comprehend. Does that make any sense?

“Wishing to be friends is quick work, but friendship is a slow ripening fruit.” ~Aristotle

I am super inspired by @tinahirsig’s latest piece for “The Collective” called “new moon”. We are going on our third year with this project and have been sending art back and forth from Charleston, SC to Groton, CT for over 11 years!

She was inspired by a collage I did in 2012 which I will share on Thursday for #TBT. It’s so fun to see how we have created such a strong dialog with our art and have nurtured such a beautiful friendship for so long.

Art helps us grow and understand our changing world. It truly can transcend time. . Join our conversation over @lauraTWOtina or pop on over to our blog to learn more about this project at lauraTWOtina.com 🙂 .

“Spring has returned.
The Earth is like a child that knows poems.”
~Rainer Maria Rilke

Happy Happy Spring Everyone!
🌸
I took this photo last year when the plumeria just started to open up their dainty buds. I especially love the polka dotted leaves! I think the leaves are my favorite . Looking forward to pulling out all the pots for my container gardens.

I am working on my correspondence art project with @tinahirsig. She dug into our collection and found some of the artwork I created in 2012! You can read the letter she wrote to me about this work on our website. Here is the direct link: http://bit.ly/2FQXO7R. @lauratwotina

“Creativity is a natural extension of our enthusiasm.” ~Earl Nightingale

It’s fun to look back on work I did years ago and remember how I was feeling. I created this collage in 2012 for my art collaboration with Tina Hirsig.

At the time I was transitioning from more traditional landscape paintings (yes I used to paint in a more traditional style) and was experimenting with torn paper collage landscapes in grad school. I loved using so many different materials which included fabric, old paper bags and even little bits of wallpaper that I saved from my dollhouse when I was a little girl if you can believe it. 🙂

The dainty wallpaper reminds me of my love for Little House on the Prairie. Do you remember that show? or am I dating myself?

Tina used this collage as the inspiration for “moon map” her latest piece for #L2TCollective ~ our current collaboration. (I shared her collage earlier this week if you scroll back) . You can read more about this project & see Tina’s creative process over on our blog: www.lauraTWOtina.com or follow us @lauraTWOtina She has a really cool video showing how she did the gold leafing in her collage that you may enjoy. 🙂

“Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.”  ~Diane Ackerman

Little detail of the watercolor landscape I am working on for The Collective. I am excited about how it is turning out. My watercolors have such a soft, playfulness that I love. So different than my acrylic paints. I love the diversity of each medium and that there are so many fun things to play with! 🙂
