7 Tips for Embracing Fall & Winter
There are so many wonderful things to love and appreciate about this time of year, yet it can also feel hectic, cold, dark, and overwhelming with so much going on and never-ending to-do lists. I thought I would share some ways this summertime girl tries to embrace the changing seasons in case it’s helpful for you in some way.
Here are 7 Tips to Help You Make the Most of These Enchanting Seasons
As the days grow shorter and the air carries a crisp chill, there's a magical transformation in the atmosphere—the arrival of fall and winter. Embracing the change of seasons doesn't mean bidding farewell to warmth and joy. Instead, it invites us to revel in the cozy embrace of autumn leaves and winter wonders.
Infuse Your Home with Seasonal Scents
Welcome fall and winter into your space by indulging in the delightful scents that define these seasons. Light a cinnamon-scented candle, simmer a pot of spiced apple cider on the stove, or fill your home with the comforting aroma of freshly baked cookies or a warm homemade soup. These scents not only create a cozy ambiance but also evoke fond memories and a sense of nostalgia.
I personally love the smell of Fraser fur trees and burn scented candles all winter. I’m always on the lookout for a clean burning, non-toxic candle and found Linnea Candles which I love. I also love this seasonal scent from Magnolia.
Layer Up with Comfortable Textures
As temperatures drop, it's the perfect time to embrace the art of layering—both in your wardrobe and home decor. Add chunky knit blankets, plush pillows, and soft throws to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Incorporate warm-toned rugs and textured upholstery to bring a touch of coziness to your living spaces.
Savor Seasonal Flavors
Fall and winter bring with them a bounty of delicious seasonal treats. Indulge in the warmth of pumpkin spice lattes, hearty soups, and spiced desserts. Visit local farmers' markets to explore the abundance of fall produce and incorporate these flavors into your meals. Savoring seasonal foods is a delightful way to connect with the rhythm of nature.
Create a Cozy Reading or Journaling Nook
As the temperatures dip, there's nothing quite like curling up with a good book or a journal in a cozy reading nook. Arrange soft cushions, throw blankets, and a reading lamp in a corner of your home. Add a touch of fall and winter charm with decorative elements like pinecones, fairy lights, or a scented candle. I love to diffuse pine or thieves essential oils which help bring the outdoor scents in. Let this be your sanctuary for moments of relaxation and reflection.
Celebrate Outdoor Adventures
While the air may be crisper, fall and winter offer unique outdoor experiences. Take nature walks to witness the changing colors of leaves or embark on winter hikes to enjoy the tranquility of snow-covered landscapes if you live in a colder climate. (I always loved snow-shoeing when I lived in NH). Embrace seasonal activities like apple picking, pumpkin carving, or building a snowman. Connecting with the outdoors during fall and winter brings a sense of wonder and rejuvenation.
Try to embrace the fall and winter seasons as an opportunity to slow down, appreciate the beauty of change, and create cherished memories. Whether you're enjoying the warmth of your home or exploring the outdoors, these tips will help you make the most of the enchanting transition from fall to winter.
Infuse Warmth into Your Space with Cozy Fall and Winter Art
As the seasons change, so does the atmosphere in our homes. Embrace the cozy allure of fall and winter by introducing new art that reflects the warmth and beauty of these seasons. Consider selecting pieces that incorporate rich autumnal hues, evoke winter landscapes, or celebrate the enchanting and colorful holiday season. Art has the power to transform your living spaces, creating a haven that radiates the magic of fall leaves and the serenity of winter snowfall.
Cherish the Magic: Watch Fall and Winter Sunrises and Sunsets
Amidst the crisp air and changing hues, there's an extraordinary spectacle that unfolds each day—the sunrise and sunset. Embrace the enchantment of fall and winter by making it a ritual to witness these magical moments. Set aside a few minutes each morning to greet the sunrise, and in the evening, bask in the warmth of the sunset's glow. These natural displays not only connect you with the changing seasons but also provide a serene and reflective start and end to your day.
I hope you find these tips helpful. Although this New England girl still longs for the longer, warmer days of Summer, I’m learning to find the gifts in each season and embrace the beauty and joy each and every day.
