The beginnings of paintings are my favorite part of the creative process.

It's a meditative practice that is loose and free and full of color. I have no expectation for myself other than to practice trusting my intuition. I have been layering a lot of white lately and love the contrast of the bright colors of the underpainting with the "breathing room" of the white space. The circles or "polka dots" always represent wholeness, connection and JOY to me.

I love how we can ALWAYS learn something new. I had a friend of mine (who also happens to be a brilliant calligrapher) in my last Affirmation Book Workshop. (You should have seen her book! WOWZA, SO gorgeous!) She showed me some simple things to experiment with my lettering. One little thing that made a BIG difference was to stretch out my letters. I have been experimenting with weaving some lettering into my paintings. This is a detail of a new one where I wove my guiding word, "honor" into it.Here is another painting detail. This time I was simply making my letters closer together. So simple, but so fun! :)
