What do you do when life feels like a flutter of emotions?

Do you ever feel like life is an ongoing flutter of emotions?

Sometimes I find it difficult for my brain to wrap its head around the polarity of life's joy and the sadder, more challenging times that seem to creep in almost simultaneously.

Brett & I just got back from an amazingly lovely trip to Oregon, his home state. We visited many of his old haunts, the house he grew up in, visited Cannon Beach, one of the places "The Goonies" was filmed (LOVE this movie!), and I got to meet his extended family for the first time.

It was my first trip to Oregon and I found it quite magical. Before this trip we were in NH celebrating two beautiful weddings and the passing of a dear family member. I feel like I have been on an emotional roller coaster.  I was so happy and hopeful on one hand and sad and distraught on the other.

Doing my best to find the grace within each moment sometimes requires a little  excavating.

I was reminded of a wonderful blog post Jess Lively wrote called, What to do when good and bad things happen at the same time. She talks about contrast in our lives and how we can hold both of them in our minds eye at the same time. I am incorporating this idea into my life in the hope of finding greater harmony, no matter what the circumstance.

I am also reading Jon Kabat Zinn's book, Wherever You Go There You Are with Tina Hirsig. It's a great resource for getting in tune with yourself and practicing the art of mindfulness. We really wanted to absorb the information and incorporate what we are learning into our daily lives so we started a two person book club on our LauraTwoTina website.

We are sharing our insights and invite you to follow along and share yours.  We have broken the book down into three parts and just shared our take aways from Part One here. This book is giving me skills that are helping to quiet my twirling thoughts and recognize more about myself. This in turn is helping me create a more peaceful life. I would love for you to join us!

Hope you are having the most FABULOSO day!
